Sharing her passion
As a master in her field, Ann Marie brings her 30+ years of working as a makeup artist and applying camera-ready makeup to her role as an instructor with behind-the-scenes knowledge of the beauty industry.
It was while teaching makeup workshops at colleges, universities, and aesthetic schools that Ann Marie was inspired to develop her own makeup classes designed for artists entering the profession and/or those wanting to further their careers.
Ann Marie has found renewed purpose in her career through sharing her secrets to success with fellow and aspiring makeup artists, as well as individuals seeking to update and perfect their own makeup through customized lessons.
Her unique in-person and virtual makeup classes provide a setting for one-on-one instruction and hands-on learning as an alternative to other online or social media tutorials.
My makeup journey and philosophy
I began to teach myself and study makeup through books in the early 1980s; there was no internet then, and my aesthetic school only taught makeup hygiene to obtain a license.
My go-to sources at the time were the immensely popular Color Me Beautiful by Carole Jackson (in which you’d choose makeup colors based on whether you were a winter, spring, autumn, or summer) and Makeover Miracles by makeup artist Michael Maron, a pioneer of before-and-after celebrity photos.
While much of that material and its makeup styles might be considered “dated” today, the basic principles for effectively applying and artfully blending makeup haven’t changed so much as the buzz words used to describe them, like “strobing,” “baking,” “cut -crease,” etc.
After learning the basics, I practiced persistently on all skin types. My self-taught dedication and endless skin and makeup product testing led me to develop makeup skills that could beautifully transform a person’s appearance. Experimenting with the newest makeup products and creating my own techniques is something I still do to this day and encourage my students to do as well.
Makeup is an inspiring form of art, and everyone's face a different canvas. With the abundance of beauty products and resources comes endless possibilities, including finding the right colors, products, techniques, and styles to make each individual look and feel their absolute best.
No two faces are alike, which is why I’m so passionate about helping both clients and aspiring makeup artists develop their own signature style so that each person can become their own best makeup artist!
